Acenomac 1 Tablet should be taken as advised by the doctor. You may take it with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time. This medicine should not be stopped abruptly without consulting the doctor. You should take this medicine regularly to get the most benefit, even if you feel fine. It is preventing future harm.
Acenomac 1 Tablet 10'S works by inhibiting the production of clotting factors by decreasing the action of vitamin K. This prevents the conversion of fibrinogen (soluble protein) to fibrin (insoluble protein) thereby preventing blood clots formation.
Pharmacokinetics. Oral absorption of Nicoumalone is found to be 83% ±7. Volume of distribution is found to be 0.3 l/kg and plasma protien binding is 98 %. and metabolism is reported extensive.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Bleeding
Nicoumalone is contraindicated in Haemorrhage,Cerebrovascular disease, stroke.
Acenomac 1 Tablet is highly unsafe to use during pregnancy. Seek your doctor's advice as studies on pregnant women and animals have shown significant harmful effects to the developing baby.
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Acenomac 1 Tablet.
Acenomac 1 Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Acenocoumarol (also called nicoumalone) is used to prevent and treat harmful blood clots, reducing the risk of a stroke or heart attack. This medication helps to keep blood flowing smoothly in your body by decreasing the amount of clotting proteins in the blood.
Drug-Food Interaction: You should avoid drinking cranberry juice or taking other cranberry products and also NICOUMALONE may interact with herbs and supplements including include garlic, ginger, bilberry, danshen, piracetam, ginkgo biloba and St John's wort plant (used as an antidepressant).
Do not chew, crush or break it. Acenomac 1 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Store below 30°C
If you miss a dose of Acenomac 1 Tablet, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

Avoid making sudden major changes to your diet during treatment with this medicine.
Acenomac 1 Tablet increases your risk of bleeding. Be careful while shaving, cutting fingernails or toenails, using sharp objects or engaging in contact sports (e.g. football, wrestling).
Notify your doctor if you see blood in your vomit, urine or stool (black, tarry stools or bright red blood).
Do not consume alcohol while taking Acenomac 1 Tablet as this may increase its side effects.
If you are going to have a surgery or dental treatment, you may be asked to stop taking Acenomac 1 Tablet temporarily.
Do not discontinue use without consulting your doctor as this may increase your chances of having another heart attack or stroke.

Q. How long do I need to take Acenomac 1 Tablet?
You should continue taking Acenomac 1 Tablet for as long as recommended by your doctor. Depending upon the condition you are being treated for, you may have to take it for several months or years or maybe for the rest of your life.
Q. What should I avoid while taking Acenomac 1 Tablet?
You should avoid alcohol while taking Acenomac 1 Tablet as alcohol may interfere with working of Acenomac 1 Tablet. In addition to that, avoid cranberry juice or other cranberry products as there may be a risk of enhanced blood thinning. Avoid breastfeeding or getting pregnant as it may harm your child.
Q. Do I need to stop Acenomac 1 Tablet if I have to undergo a surgery?
Depending on the type of surgery that is to be performed, your doctor will tell you whether to continue or stop Acenomac 1 Tablet. It will be decided by your doctor after weighing the risks and benefits of discontinuing Acenomac 1 Tablet.
Q. Is Acenomac 1 Tablet same as warfarin?
Both Acenomac 1 Tablet and warfarin are blood thinners, but they have some differences. Warfarin has a more stable blood thinning effect.
Q. How long does it take for Acenomac 1 Tablet to start working?
It takes a little longer for Acenomac 1 Tablet to start working. On an average, it may take 3-4 days for Acenomac 1 Tablet to show its blood-thinning effect. For these 3-4 days, heparin may be used and then discontinued.
Q. What if I forget to take a dose?
If you forget to take a dose of Acenomac 1 Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is time for your next dose then skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose and continue your normal schedule. Keep a diary or set a reminder, so that you do not forget it often.
Q. What monitoring is required while taking Acenomac 1 Tablet?
The bleeding times should be carefully monitored from 2nd or 3rd dose of Acenomac 1 Tablet and till the clotting status is stabilized. Thereafter, the bleeding time can be monitored monthly. This frequency may be more in elderly.
