Acitrom 4 Tablet should be taken as advised by the doctor. You may take it with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time. This medicine should not be stopped abruptly without consulting the doctor. You should take this medicine regularly to get the most benefit, even if you feel fine. It is preventing future harm.
Acitrom 4 Tablet 30's works by inhibiting the production of clotting factors by decreasing the action of vitamin K. This prevents the conversion of fibrinogen (soluble protein) to fibrin (insoluble protein), thereby preventing blood clots formation.
Pharmacokinetics. Oral absorption of Nicoumalone is found to be 83% ±7. Volume of distribution is found to be 0.3 l/kg and plasma protien binding is 98 %. and metabolism is reported extensive.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Acitrom 4 Tablet is highly unsafe to use during pregnancy. Seek your doctor's advice as studies on pregnant women and animals have shown significant harmful effects to the developing baby.
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Acitrom 4 Tablet.
Acitrom 4 Tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Acitrom 4 Tablet 30's is primarily used to prevent and treat various types of thromboembolic diseases (blood clots inside blood vessels), including deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in leg veins) and pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lung).
Drug-Drug Interaction: Acitrom 4 Tablet 30's may have interaction with other anticoagulants (e.g. heparin, dipyridamole, clopidogrel, ticlopidine), anti-arrhythmic agents (e.g. amiodarone, quinidine), antibiotics (e.g. clindamycin).
Do not chew, crush or break it. Acitrom 4 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

If you miss a dose of Acitrom 4 Tablet, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

Acitrom 4 Tablet increases your risk of bleeding. Be careful while shaving, cutting fingernails or toenails, using sharp objects or engaging in contact sports (e.g. football, wrestling).
Notify your doctor if you see blood in your vomit, urine or stool (black, tarry stools or bright red blood).
Do not consume alcohol while taking Acitrom 4 Tablet as this may increase its side effects.
If you are going to have a surgery or dental treatment, you may be asked to stop taking Acitrom 4 Tablet temporarily.
Do not discontinue use without consulting your doctor as this may increase your chances of having another heart attack or stroke.

You should continue taking Acitrom 4 Tablet for as long as recommended by your doctor. Depending upon the condition you are being treated for, you may have to take it for several months or years or maybe for the rest of your life.
Q. What should I avoid while taking Acitrom 4 Tablet?
You should avoid alcohol while taking Acitrom 4 Tablet as alcohol may interfere with working of Acitrom 4 Tablet. In addition to that, avoid cranberry juice or other cranberry products as there may be a risk of enhanced blood thinning. Avoid breastfeeding or getting pregnant as it may harm your child.
Q. Do I need to stop Acitrom 4 Tablet if I have to undergo a surgery?
Depending on the type of surgery that is to be performed, your doctor will tell you whether to continue or stop Acitrom 4 Tablet. It will be decided by your doctor after weighing the risks and benefits of discontinuing Acitrom 4 Tablet.
Q. Is Acitrom 4 Tablet same as warfarin?
Both Acitrom 4 Tablet and warfarin are blood thinners, but they have some differences. Warfarin has a more stable blood thinning effect.
Q. How long does it take for Acitrom 4 Tablet to start working?
It takes a little longer for Acitrom 4 Tablet to start working. On an average, it may take 3-4 days for Acitrom 4 Tablet to show its blood-thinning effect. For these 3-4 days, heparin may be used and then discontinued.
Q. What if I forget to take a dose?
If you forget to take a dose of Acitrom 4 Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is time for your next dose then skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose and continue your normal schedule. Keep a diary or set a reminder, so that you do not forget it often.
Q. What monitoring is required while taking Acitrom 4 Tablet?
The bleeding times should be carefully monitored from 2nd or 3rd dose of Acitrom 4 Tablet and till the clotting status is stabilized. Thereafter, the bleeding time can be monitored monthly. This frequency may be more in elderly.
