ACUTROL 800MG TABLET belongs to a group of medications called 'phosphate binder' which works by binding phosphate in the gastrointestinal tract and decreases its absorption. Thus, lowers the phosphate concentration in the body.
Sevelamer prevents hyperphosphatemia by binding to dietary phosphate in the gut, preventing its absorption and thus decreasing serum parathyroid hormone levels. Not absorbed following oral administration, however no absorption studies have been performed in patients with renal disease.
