Afenak Plus MR Tablet can be taken with or without food. The dose and duration will depend on the severity of your condition. You should keep taking the medicine even if you feel better until the doctor says it is alright to stop using it. Before using the medicine, you should tell your doctor if you have any other medical conditions or disorders. To make sure it is safe, you should let your doctor know all the other medicines you are taking. Also, tell your doctor if you have any problems with the liver or kidneys. You should avoid the consumption of alcohol while on treatment with this medicine. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctors first before using the medicine.
Afenak Plus MR Tablet is a combination of three medicines: Aceclofenac, Paracetamol and Chlorzoxazone. This medicine helps in relieving muscle pain by relaxing the affected muscles. It relieves pain caused due to muscle spasm, cramp or injury. It also lowers certain chemical substances in the body that cause pain.
Aceclofenac is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme cyclo-oxygenase, which is involved in the production of prostaglandins. After oral administration, aceclofenac is rapidly and completely absorbed as unchanged drug. Peak plasma concentrations are reached approximately 1.25 to 3.00 hours following ingestion.
Paracetamol is readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract with peak plasma concentrations occurring about 30 minutes to 2 hours after ingestion. It is metabolised in the liver (90-95%) and excreted in the urine mainly as the glucuronide and sulphate conjugates. Less than 5% is excreted as unchanged paracetamol.
Analysis of plasma samples indicated a rapid absorption and rapid elimination of chlorzoxazone. Average values of the elimination half-life and plasma clearance were 1.12 +/- 0.48 hr and 148.0 +/- 39.9 ml/min, respectively.

Aceclofenac + Paracetamol + Chlorzoxazone is a combination of two pain relieving medicines (Aceclofenac and Paracetamol ) and a muscle relaxant ( Chlorzoxazone). The pain relieving medicines work by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers in the brain that cause pain and inflammation (redness and swelling).
Drug-Drug Interactions: ACECLOFENAC+PARACETAMOL+CHLORZOXAZONE interacts with sleeping pills (alprazolam, escitalopram, zolpidem), pain killers (tramadol, oxycodone, hydrocodone), antiepileptic or medicines for fits (gabapentin, topiramate, pregabalin), diuretics or water pills (fluoxetine), an antidepressant.
Do not chew, crush or break it. Afenak Plus MR Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

If you miss a dose of Afenak Plus MR Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Avoid consuming alcohol when taking Afenak Plus MR Tablet as it may cause excessive drowsiness and increase the risk of liver damage.
Older adults may have increased drowsiness, confusion, and higher risk of falling as a result of taking Afenak Plus MR Tablet.
Do not take it with any other medicine containing acetaminophen (drugs for pain/fever or cough-and-cold) without asking your doctor first.

No, there are no reports of any patient getting addicted to Afenak Plus MR Tablet.
Q. Can I stop taking Afenak Plus MR Tablet when my pain is relieved?
Afenak Plus MR Tablet is usually used for short term and can be discontinued when your pain is relieved. However, Afenak Plus MR Tablet should be continued if you are advised by your doctor to do so.
Q. Can the use of Afenak Plus MR Tablet cause dizziness?
Yes, the use of Afenak Plus MR Tablet can cause dizziness (feeling faint, weak, unsteady or lightheaded) in some patients. If you feel dizzy or lightheaded, it is better to rest for some time and resume once you feel better.
Q. Can the use of Afenak Plus MR Tablet cause damage to liver?
Afenak Plus MR Tablet contains Paracetamol and Chlorzoxazone, both these medicines are known to cause harm to the liver especially when taken in doses above the recommended level. Also, avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine, as it may further increase your risk of liver damage. Use of this medicine should preferably be avoided in patients with underlying liver disease. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice any early signs and symptoms of liver damage. These symptoms may include fever, rash, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, stomach pain, dark urine, yellow skin or eyes and abnormal live enzymes.

It may take about an hour to notice the initial benefits of pain relief after taking Afenak Plus MR Tablet.
Q. What if I forget to take Afenak Plus MR Tablet?
If you forget to take the scheduled dose of Afenak Plus MR Tablet and it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and take your next dose at the scheduled time. Otherwise, take it as soon as you remember, and then go back to taking your medicine as you would normally. Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose you missed because this may increase the risk of unwanted side effect due to overdosage. If you are not sure what to do, consult your doctor about how to manage a situation like this.
Q. Will Afenak Plus MR Tablet be more effective if taken in higher than recommended doses?
No, taking a higher than the recommended dose may not be more effective, rather it may increase the chances of having some serious side effects and toxicity. If you experience increased severity of your symptoms that are not relieved by the recommended doses, please consult your doctor for re-evaluation.

The use of Afenak Plus MR Tablet is considered to be harmful in patients with known allergy to any of the components or excipients of this medicine. It should also be avoided in patients with a history of heart failure, high blood pressure, and liver or kidney disease.
