Mechanism Of Action

It is bactericidal (kills bacteria) and works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase, an enzyme required for the replication, transcription, and repair of the DNA. Use Ahlox D Eye Drops in the dose and duration prescribed by your doctor based on your medical condition.

Pharmacokinets

The pharmacokinetics of ciprofloxacin in healthy volunteers include a time to peak concentrations after oral dosage (tmax) of 1–1.5 h, oral availability of 0.5–0.7, protein binding of 0.2–0.3, volume of distribution (V) of 2–3 l kg−1, half-life (t1/2) of 3–4 h and fraction excreted unchanged in the urine of 0.4–0.6 

Plasma concentrations of dexamethasone were detectable in 11% of samples (21 of 189). For plasma samples with quantifiable drug concentrations, mean Cmax was <1 ng/mL (range, 0.05 to 0.81 ng/mL), AUC0-last ranged from 0.13 to 7.18 h∙ng/mL, and Tmax ranged from 4.0 to 163.0 hours.

Indications

Ciprofloxacin and dexamethasone otic is used to treat outer ear infections in adults and children and acute (suddenly occurring) middle ear infections in children with ear tubes. Ciprofloxacin is in a class of medications called quinolone antibiotics. Dexamethasone is in a class of medications called corticosteroids.

Interactions

Ciprofloxacin and other medications in its class can cause tendinitis and tendon rupture, and the risk may be increased when combined with a steroid such as dexamethasone. Older adults over 60 years of age and those who have received a kidney, heart, and/or lung transplant may be particularly susceptible.
