Akurit LD Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Rifampicin and Isoniazid. It is used in the treatment of tuberculosis. Rifampicin works by inactivating a bacterial enzyme (RNA-polymerase) which is required by tuberculosis bacteria to make essential proteins and reproduce.
Approximately 80% of rifampicin is transported in blood bound to plasma proteins, mainly albumin. Rifampicin is well distributed, although to a different degree, in the various tissues of the human body. Probably in the hepatocyte, rifampicin undergoes a process of desacetylation.
Isonicotinyl hydrazine or isoniazid (INH) has been the mainstay of TB treatment and prevention in both adults and children. When given orally in the fasted state, INH is rapidly absorbed with the maximum concentration (Cmax) occurring 1–2 hours post-dose. Food delays and decreases the extent of absorption.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them
