Alfusin D Tablet ER is advised to take it in a dose and duration as per prescription. It should be taken with food, but take at the same time regularly. Swallow the medicine as a whole without crushing or chewing it. You should not stop taking the medicine without consulting the doctor as it may lead to the worsening of your symptoms. The course of the treatment should be completed for better efficacy of the medicine.
Alfuzosin works by causing the relaxation of smooth muscle in the bladder neck and prostate, resulting in an improvement in urine flow and a reduction in symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Alfuzosin has a serum half-life of five hours after oral administration. Alfuzosin has a linear pharmacokinetic profile over the dosing range of 1 to 5 mg, with no change in half-life despite an increase in the dose. The volume of distribution of alfuzosin is 2.5 L/kg, and 90% of each dose is protein bound.
Pharmacokinetics: Absorption: Following administration of a single 0.5-mg dose of a soft gelatin capsule, time to peak serum concentrations (Tmax) of dutasteride occurs within 2 to 3 hours. Absolute bioavailability in 5 healthy subjects is approximately 60% (range, 40% to 94%).

ALFUSIN D tablets are indicated for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with an enlarged prostate. The tablets are not intended for use as an anti-hypertensive drug. Dutasteride is not approved for the prevention of prostate cancer.
Drug-Food Interaction: ALFUSIN D TABLET is known to interact when taken along with alcohol and St John's Wort (a natural remedy to treat depression). Also, keep your doctor informed about all the OTC medicines you are using while taking ALFUSIN D TABLET.

If you miss a dose of Alfusin D Tablet ER, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Alfuzosin
Alfuzosin helps in relieving the symptoms of enlarged prostate. It does not decrease the size of the prostate.
Alfuzosin must be taken with food.
You will feel better within hours or days of starting the treatment. Full effect is usually seen within 2 weeks.
Alfuzosin may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you.
If you are scheduled to undergo an eye surgery due to cataract or glaucoma, inform your eye doctor about the usage of Alfuzosin.
Inform your doctor if you have ever been diagnosed with kidney or liver problems.
Dutasteride
Your doctor has prescribed Dutasteride to shrink the enlarged prostate and reduce the risk of urinary retention.
It may take 3 to 6 months to see the full beneficial effect of Dutasteride. Hence, continue taking the medicine as advised by your doctor.
Dutasteride is usually well tolerated. However, it may produce some mild sexual side effects such as low sexual drive.
Do not donate blood for 6 months after taking the last dose of Dutasteride.
Use it as advised by your doctor or check the label for directions before use. Alfusin D Tablet ER is to be taken with food.
Alfuzosin
Q. Does Alfuzosin shrink the prostate?
No, Alfuzosin does not shrink the size of the prostate. It belongs to alpha-blocker class of medicines. It works by relaxing muscles of bladder and prostate to allow urine to flow more easily. It helps in relieving symptoms of an enlarged prostate.
Q. Can Alfuzosin cause erectile dysfunction?
No, Alfuzosin does not cause erectile dysfunction. On the contrary, it may help in improving such condition. However, this medicine may cause painful erection (priapism) which does not go away. If priapism is not treated you may not be able to get an erection in the future.
Q. When should I take Alfuzosin?
Alfuzosin should be taken after meals at the same time each day. Do not cut, crush, or chew the medicine, but swallow it whole with water.
Q. Does Alfuzosin have any effect on liver?
In very rare cases your liver may be affected and cause liver function abnormality. Inform the doctor if you already have liver disease before starting the medication. The doctor will prescribe a lower dose of Alfuzosin once or twice daily.
Q. Can Alfuzosin be taken by old or elderly people?
Yes, it can be taken by elderly or old people, but they need to be careful. Regular monitoring is required in case the patient also has high blood pressure.
Q. Can Alfuzosin affect my eyes?
In rare cases, Alfuzosin may cause abnormal vision. But, it is important to know that this medicine may cause complications during surgery, if you are to be operated for cataract. Hence, inform your doctor before surgery that you are taking Alfuzosin. Your doctor may perform surgery differently and complications can be prevented.
Q. Can the use of sildenafil or vardenafil cause trouble when taken along with Alfuzosin?
Extreme care should be taken if you are taking sildenafil or vardenafil along with Alfuzosin. The combination may cause a significant decrease in blood pressure which can be serious. Inform your doctor if you are taking these medicines.
Q. What can patients do to help alleviate or prevent discomfort and side effects due to Alfuzosin?
Alfuzosin may lower your blood pressure especially when you suddenly stand up after lying down. You may feel dizzy or fainting and therefore you should get up slowly from bed or chair. This medicine may impair your reactions. Hence, avoid driving or hazardous activities until you know how this medicine will affect you.
Dutasteride
Q. How long does it take for Dutasteride to work?
Dutasteride starts working within a few days of taking this medicine, and you may notice a constant improvement in your symptoms. However, for some patients, this medicine may take around 3-6 months to work. You should keep taking this medicine as prescribed by your doctor.
