Alpenam O 200mg Tablet is the only medicine of its class that can be taken orally (by mouth). It may be taken with or without food. The dose and duration of treatment depend upon the severity of the infection and how you respond to the medicine. Take it at the same time each day and finish the complete course, even if you feel better. If you stop taking this medicine too early then the infection may return or worsen. Before using it, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any antibiotics or if you have any problems related to your kidneys or liver. Let your doctor know about all other medicines you may be taking, as they may affect, or be affected by this medicine. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before using it to prevent any harmful effects on the baby.

Mechanism Of Action

ALPENAM O 200MG contains Faropenem which belongs to a group of medicines called carbapenem beta-lactam antibiotics. It kills the bacteria by inhibiting the formation of outer coating of bacteria (bacterial cell wall). As a result, that the bacterial cell wall is weakened and ruptures and thereby killing the bacteria.


Pharmacokinets

Faropenem is a β-lactam in the penem subclass that is being developed as an oral prodrug, faropenem medoxomil, for the treatment of respiratory tract infections. Faropenem was shown to have in vitro activity against B. anthracis strains that variably express the bla1 β-lactamase (MIC range, ≤0.06 to 1 μg/ml).

Faropenem is used in the treatment of bacterial infections. It treats infections of respiratory and urinary tract. Faropenem is an antibiotic. It kills bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive.

Interactions

Concomitant use of Imipenem and Cilastatin sodium along with Faronem 200 tablet should be avoided. When it is used along with Sodium Valproate to treat fits/epilepsy, it can cause reoccurrence of fits or epilepsy.

Do not chew, crush or break it. Alpenam O 200mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Effects Of Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Alpenam O 200mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
