Alpostin 500mcg Injection is given as an injection by a doctor or nurse and should not be used without medical supervision. The most common side effects of this medicine are interrupted breathing (apnea) and a high temperature for a short time period (transient pyrexia/fever). If your baby has these or any other side effects, let your doctor know.
Alpostin 500 MCG Injection relaxes the smooth muscles present in the wall of blood vessels and helps in increasing the flow of blood in certain specific areas of the body. It is used for the treatment of erection disorders and improving the blood flow in newborn babies having a birth defect of the heart.
Metabolism: Alprostadil is rapidly converted to compounds which are further metabolized prior to excretion. Following intravenous administration, approximately 80% of circulating alprostadil is metabolized in one pass through the lungs, primarily by beta- and omega-oxidation.

Known hypersensitivity to alprostadil or components of the dosage form.
Sickle cell disease or trait, multiple myeloma, leukemia, polycythemia vera, thrombocythemia as these conditions are known to precipitate priapism, and alprostadil can also predispose to prolonged erection or priapism.
