Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Alprazolam works by increasing the action of a chemical messenger called GABA, this helps suppress the nerve cell's excessive and abnormal activity in the brain. Propranolol blocks certain chemical messenger's action on the heart and blood vessels, reducing heart rate and blood pressure.

Pharmacokinets

After single I mg oral doses in humans, typical pharmacokinetic variables for alprazolam are: a peak plasma concentration 12 to 22 ILg/L occurring 0.7 to 1.8h postdose, a volume of distri- bution of 0.8 to I. 3 L/kg, elimination half-life of 9 to 16h and clearance of 0.7 to 1.5 mlfmin/ kg.

Abstract. The pharmacokinetics of propranolol vary according to the route and duration of administration. After i.v. administration, the decline in drug concentrations is biphasic and the drug is cleared very efficiently by the liver, so that its elimination is dependent largely on liver blood flow.
