Aluvia 200mg/50mg Tablet 120's is a combination of two antiretroviral drugs, namely: Lopinavir and Ritonavir. Lopinavir works by inhibiting the working of a protease enzyme that is essential for the reproduction of the HIV virus. Thereby, it prevents the production of the new virus.
The pharmacokinetics of ritonavir are relatively linear after multiple doses, with apparent oral clearance averaging 7 to 9 L/h. In vitro, ritonavir is a potent inhibitor of CYP3A.
Lopinavir is primarily eliminated in the feces. Following oral administration, approximately 10.4 ± 2.3% of the administered dose is excreted in the urine and 82.6 ± 2.5% is excreted in the feces. Unchanged parent drug accounted for 2.2% and 19.8% of the administered dose in urine and feces, respectively.
