Benzocaine is metabolized into at least three compounds by acetylation and hydrolysis. Benzocaine and its acetylated metabolite are rapidly eliminated across the gills while the more polar de-ethylated and de-ethylated-acetylated metabolites are excreted at slower rates primarily in the urine.
After the first dose of chlorbutol, the terminal elimination half-life was 10.3 +/-1.3 days (mean +/- S.E.M), the volume of distribution was 233 +/- 141 and the plasma clearance was 11.6 +/- 1.0 ml min-1. The binding to plasma proteins was 57 +/- 3 per cent.
Paradichlorobenzene (PDCB) is a lipophilic molecule used in mothballs. It is considered safer than the common alternative agent, naphthalene, but toxicity can occur due to accidental ingestion or in those who use it as a drug of abuse.
Turpentine oil is applied to the skin for joint pain, muscle pain, nerve pain, and toothaches. People sometimes breathe in (inhale) the vapors of turpentine oil to reduce the chest congestion that goes along with some lung diseases. In foods and beverages, distilled turpentine oil is used as a flavoring.
