Give Ambrodil Drop to your child by mouth with or without food. If your child develops an upset stomach, prefer giving it with food. You may require to give this medicine to your child for a few days to weeks, depending upon the severity of the disease. For maximum benefit, do not stop the medication abruptly by yourself even if your child starts to feel better and continue the medicine until the full prescribed course. Also, do not give more than the prescribed dose for fast relief as it may cause unwanted effects and worsen your child’s condition.
Ambrodil Drops 15 ml contains Ambroxol that works by thinning and loosening phlegm (mucus) in lungs, windpipe and nose. Ambrodil Drops 15 ml breakdown the acid mucopolysaccharide fibres that make the mucous (sputum) thinner and less dense/viscous removing sputum efficiently by coughing.
Bioavailability of ambroxol administered orally is approximately 70–80%. The distribution half-life of ambroxol is 1.3 hours, metabolite is dibromoanthranilic acid (activity unspecified) and Elimination of ambroxol is biphasic, with an alpha half-life of 1.3 hours and a beta half-life of 8.8 hours.
Ambrodil Drop does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. Consult your child’s doctor if these side effects persist or bother your child. The most common side effects include-

Hypersensitivity. There are no other specific contraindications for administration of ambroxol however caution is advised in patients of gastric ulceration.

Ambrodil Drops 15 ml helps in making cough less viscous so that it can be coughed out easily in the conditions of acute and recurrent bronchitis (airways infection), laryngitis (voice box infection) and tracheitis (windpipe infection) and chronic diseases like chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary.
Drug-Drug Interaction: Ambrodil Drops 15 ml may have interaction with antibiotics (amoxicillin, cefuroxime, and erythromycin) and a cough suppressant (codeine). Drug-Food Interaction: Ambrodil Drops 15 ml interaction with food is unknown.

Practice self-care tips:
Give plenty of fluids as it helps to loosen and expel the mucus.
Avoid giving dairy and caffeinated products, spicy and fried food to your child as all these may irritate the airways and trigger coughing.
A teaspoon of honey may also help to ease out a cough reflex.
Ask your child to gargle with warm salt water as it eases the expelling of mucus.
Ensure your child takes enough rest.
Do not give this medicine to your child for a long term without consulting your child’s doctor.
Never combine Ambrodil Drop with other cold and flu medicines as that may increase the chances of side effects.

Q. My child has a severe cough. Can I give him two cough medicines together?

No, Ambrodil Drop is advised for the treatment of wet cough. It aims to expel the mucus from the airway tract, thereby relieving your child from throat irritation, congestion and rendering him a soothing effect. Whereas, for a dry cough, cough suppressants are a better option. So, it will be wise if you ask your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
Q. How should Ambrodil Drop be stored?
Ambrodil Drop should be stored at room temperature, in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Also, keep all medicines out of the reach and sight of children to avoid any mishap.
