Ameto 500 Tablet ER is best taken with food to avoid nausea and abdominal pain. You should take it regularly, at the same time each day, to get the most benefit. You should not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor recommends it. Your lifestyle plays a big part in controlling diabetes. Therefore, it is important to stay on the diet and exercise program recommended by your doctor while taking this medicine.
Ameto 500 Tablet ER is an anti-diabetic medication (biguanide). It works by lowering glucose production in the liver, delaying the absorption of sugar (glucose) from the intestines, and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin
The immediate-release formulation of metformin is rapidly absorbed from the small intestine following an oral dose. It has an onset of action of about 1.5 hours, half-life in the circulation of about 1.5–4.9 hours, and duration of action of 16–20 hours [8].
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Contraindication includes hypersensitivity, chronic heart failure, metabolic acidosis with or without coma, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), severe renal disease, abnormal creatinine clearance resulting from shock, septicemia, or myocardial infarction and lactation.
Ameto 500 Tablet ER is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
It is unsafe to consume alcohol with Ameto 500 Tablet ER.
Use with caution
Ameto 500 Tablet ER is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Metformin is used with a proper diet and exercise program and possibly with other medications to control high blood sugar. It is used in patients with type 2 diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems.
Concomitant use of Metformin and Cimetidine decrease the excretion of Metformin, resulting in increased exposure of Metformin and elevated risk of Metformin Associated Lactic Acidosis (MALA). It is recommended to reduce the dose of Metformin when Cimetidine is co-prescribed.
Do not chew, crush or break it. Ameto 500 Tablet ER is to be taken with food.
Store below 30°C
If you miss a dose of Ameto 500 Tablet ER, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

You have been prescribed Ameto 500 Tablet ER to control the blood sugar level and reduce the risk of diabetic complications such as heart attacks.
Chances of weight gain and low blood sugar are lesser with this medicine as compared to other diabetes medicines.
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) may occur when taken along with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or on delaying/skipping a meal. Carry a sugar source with you for immediate relief.
Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing, persistent nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain as Ameto 500 Tablet ER may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis, which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood.
Prolonged use of Ameto 500 Tablet ER may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency which may lead to anemia, causing fatigue, pale skin, shortness of breath or headache. Notify your doctor if you experience any of these as you may require supplements.
Your doctor will monitor your blood sugar levels and kidney functions regularly while you are taking this medication.

Q. How to take Ameto 500 Tablet ER?
Take Ameto 500 Tablet ER with or after a meal. Do not crush or chew the tablets and swallow it with a glass of water. If your doctor has prescribed one tablet a day, prefer taking it in the morning with breakfast. If you have been prescribed two tablets a day, then take one in the morning and other in the evening with dinner. In case of three doses a day, apart from morning and evening, you can take it with lunch. Taking Ameto 500 Tablet ER with meals will reduce its digestive problems like indigestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach ache and loss of appetite.
