Ameto 500 Tablet ER is an anti-diabetic medication (biguanide). It works by lowering glucose production in the liver, delaying the absorption of sugar (glucose) from the intestines, and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin

Pharmacokinets

The immediate-release formulation of metformin is rapidly absorbed from the small intestine following an oral dose. It has an onset of action of about 1.5 hours, half-life in the circulation of about 1.5–4.9 hours, and duration of action of 16–20 hours [8].

Indications

Metformin is used with a proper diet and exercise program and possibly with other medications to control high blood sugar. It is used in patients with type 2 diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems.

Interactions

Concomitant use of Metformin and Cimetidine decrease the excretion of Metformin, resulting in increased exposure of Metformin and elevated risk of Metformin Associated Lactic Acidosis (MALA). It is recommended to reduce the dose of Metformin when Cimetidine is co-prescribed.

If you miss a dose of Ameto 500 Tablet ER, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
