Metoprolol succinate works by slowing down the heart rate, thereby making it more efficient at pumping blood throughout the body. Amlodipine relaxes the blood vessels, thereby improving blood flow. Together, AMLODIPINE+METOPROLOL SUCCINATE helps treat high blood pressure.
Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium antagonist drug with distinctive pharmacokinetic characteristics which appear to be attributable to a high degree of ionisation. Following oral administration, bioavailability is 60 to 65% and plasma concentrations rise gradually to peak 6 to 8h after administration.
The pharmacokinetic profile of metoprolol succinate extended- release tablet was studied in 120 pediatric hypertensive patients (6-17 years of age) receiving doses ranging from 12.5 to 200 mg once daily. The pharmacokinetics of metoprolol were similar to those described previously in adults.
