Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Amvalor Chrono 200 Tablet CR is a combination of two antiepileptic medicines: Sodium Valproate and Valproic Acid. They work together to control seizures or fits by decreasing the abnormal and excessive activity of the nerve cells in the brain.

Pharmacokinets

Sodium valproate (VPA) was first marketed in the United States in 1978. In this pilot study of pharmacokinetics and toxicity, VPA was added to the treatment regimens of 20 patients (10 adults and 10 children) with intractable seizures. The drug was absorbed and excreted rapidly; the mean half-life was 9.6 hours.Valproic acid exhibits its pharmacologic effects in a couple of ways, such as by acting on GABA (γ aminobutyric acid) levels in the CNS, blocking voltage-gated ion channels, and inhibiting histone deacetylase.
