Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Antagit DS Oral Gel is a combination of two antacids (Aluminium Hydroxide and Magnesium) and an antifoaming medicine (Simethicone). The antacids neutralise excess acid in stomach. The antifoaming medicine disintegrates gas bubbles and allows easy passage of gas.

Pharmacokinets

Aluminum hydroxide is a basic inorganic salt that acts by neutralizing hydrochloric acid in gastric secretions. Aluminum hydroxide is slowly solubilized in the stomach and reacts with hydrochloric acid to form aluminum chloride and water. It also inhibits the action of pepsin by increasing the pH and via adsorption. An antiflatulent that changes surface tension of gas bubbles, allowing easier elimination of gas. Therapeutic Effect: Drug dispersal, prevents formation of gas pockets in the GI tract. Pharmacokinetics: Does not appear to be absorbed from GI tract. Excreted unchanged in feces. The pharmacokinetic profile of magnesium sulfate after intravenous administration can be described by a two-compartment model with a rapid distribution (α) phase, followed by a relative slow β phase of elimination. The clinical effect and toxicity of magnesium sulfate can be linked to its concentration in plasma.
