Apigat 2.5 tablet is an anticoagulant medicine or a blood thinner that contains apixaban as an active ingredient. It reduces the risk of stroke and blood clots. Apigat 2.5 tablet must be used under mdical prescription, and for the duration, it is prescribed. Mechanism Of Action

Apixaban inhibits free and clot-bound FXa, and prothrombinase activity. Apixaban has no direct effect on platelet aggregation, but indirectly inhibits platelet aggregation induced by thrombin. By inhibiting FXa, apixaban decreases thrombin generation and thrombus development.


Pharmacokinets

The pharmacokinetic properties of apixaban have been described in detail. In healthy male volunteers, apixaban was rapidly absorbed after oral administration, with a time to maximum plasma apixaban concentration of about 1 hour. The elimination half-life for apixaban in healthy subjects is approximately 12 hours.

If you are allergic to apixaban or other ingredients of Apigat 2.5 tablet.

If you take medicines like warfarin, heparin to prevent blood clotting.

If you have a disease in an organ of the body that may increase the risk of bleeding like recent bleeding in your brain on spinal injury, active or a recent ulcer of the stomach or intestine.

Indications

Apixaban is indicated for reducing the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients who have nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, prophylaxis of deep vein thrombosis(DVT) leading to pulmonary embolism(PE) in patients after a hip or knee replacement surgery, and treatment of DVT and PE to reduce the risk of recurrence

Typical Dosage

Swallow as a whole with a glass of water, do not cut, break or chew the medicine. Take with or without food.

Effects Of Missed Dosage

If you missed taking a dose of Apigat 2.5 tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If it's time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dose schedule. Avoid taking a double dose of medicine to compensate for the missed one.

Concomitant use of anticoagulants like warfarin and pain killer medicines like acetylsalicylic acid, aspirin or other strong painkillers, increases the risk of bleeding.

Other medicines like diltiazem, verapamil (used to treat blood pressure), enoxaparin, clopidogrel (used as an anticoagulant) must be used with caution along with Apigat 2.5 tablet.
