PEG provides lubrication and acts as a surfactant by coating the eye and interacting with propylene glycol and other solutions that help to act as surfactants on the eye mucosa 15. This allows for long-lasting, soothing effects.
The pharmacokinetics of propylene glycol has been examined during multiple oral-dosing regimens. The glycol is rapidly absorbed, with Cpmax observed within 1 h following administration. The terminal elimination half-life is approximately 4 h. These data demonstrate that PEG polymers can be absorbed across epithelial membranes and that PEG size plays a dominant role in controlling the rate and mechanism of absorption.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them
