Atrest 25 Tablet should be taken with or without food. However, it is advised to take it at the same time each day as this helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body. Take this in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor and if you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. This medication mustn't be stopped suddenly without talking to your doctor as it may worsen your symptoms. However, discontinue this medicine immediately if you experience neuroleptic malignant syndrome, characterized by fever, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness or seizures.
Some common side effects of this medicine include nausea, insomnia(difficulty sleeping), anxiety, fatigue, akathisia (restlessness and inability to stay still), and depression. It also causes dizziness and sleepiness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. Inform your doctor if you develop any unusual changes in mood or behavior, new or worsening depression, or suicidal thoughts while taking this medicine.
This medication is thought to work by decreasing the amount of certain natural substances in the brain (monoamines such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine), which are involved with nerve and muscle function. Tetrabenazine belongs to a class of drugs called monoamine depletors.
Tetrabenazine belongs to a class of medicines called monoamine depletors. It is used for treating involuntary movements (chorea) caused by Huntington disease. It works by reducing the amount of some chemicals in the brain such as norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin.

Atrest 25 Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
Atrest 25 Tablet may cause excessive drowsiness with alcohol.
Atrest 25 Tablet is probably unsafe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug may pass into the breastmilk and harm the baby.
Tetrabenazine is used to decrease the uncontrollable movements (chorea) caused by Huntington's disease. However, it is not a cure for the disease. Reducing the chorea will help you take part in more of your normal daily activities.

Be cautious while driving or doing anything that requires concentration as Atrest 25 Tablet can cause dizziness and sleepiness.
Inform your doctor if you experience symptoms such as high fever, sweating, muscle stiffness, and faster breathing. These may be due to a rare side effect known as the neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
Inform your doctor if you develop any unusual changes in mood or behavior, new or worsening depression, or suicidal thoughts or behavior.
Do not stop taking Atrest 25 Tablet without talking to your doctor first as it may cause worsening of symptoms.

No, Atrest 25 Tablet should not be crushed, cut, or chewed. It needs to be swallowed as a whole. But if you cannot swallow the whole tablet, tell your doctor who will probably prescribe you another medicine.

Therefore, you should not take Atrest 25 Tablet if you have Huntington’s disease along with depression.

Sleepiness is a common side effect of Atrest 25 Tablet. Therefore, you should avoid driving or operating heavy machinery if you feel sleepy while taking Atrest 25 Tablet.
