Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Augtax 250 mg/125 mg Injection is a combination of two medicines: Cefotaxime and Sulbactam. Cefotaxime is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria. Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which reduces resistance and enhances the activity of Cefotaxime against bacteria.

Pharmacokinets

The pharmacokinetics of cefotaxime after intramuscular injection and intravenous infusion were determined. The mean peak serum level after the 500-mg intramuscular dose was 11.7 micrograms/ml, and it was 20.5 micrograms/ml after a 1,000-mg dose. The serum half-life was 1.2 and 1.3 h, respectively for the two doses.Sulbactam, a new beta-lactamase inhibitor, has pharmacokinetic characteristics in humans similar to those of ampicillin and amoxicillin. Its half-life in humans is approximately 1 h.
