Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Avacan Tablet works by inhibiting the action of an enzyme phosphodiesterase, thus results in relaxation of smooth muscle and dilation of blood vessels. Thereby, providing relief from spasm and pain.

Pharmacokinets

Drotaverine is mainly eliminated via hepatic metabolism. About 67% of the drug is found in feces and 20% of the drug was eliminated with urine. Following oral administration of a single 80 mg dose, the mean half-life was 9.11 ± 1.29 hours. Following an intravenous dose of 80 mg, the mean half-life 9.33 ± 1.02 hours.Mefenamic acid is rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Mefenamic acid undergoes metabolism by CYP2C9 to 3-hydroxymethyl mefenamic acid, and further oxidation to a 3-carboxymefenamic acid may occur. The activity of these metabolites has not been studied. Mefenamic acid is also glucuronidated directly.
