Axifur 1.5gm Injection is given as a drip (intravenous infusion) or as an injection directly into a vein or a muscle under the supervision of a healthcare professional. Your doctor will decide the correct dose for you. You should use this medicine regularly at evenly spaced intervals as per the schedule prescribed by your doctor. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping the medicine too early may lead to the infection returning or worsening. Before using it, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any antibiotics, and if you have any liver or kidney problems. You should also let your doctor know all other medicines you are taking as they may affect, or be affected by this medicine. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before using it.

Mechanism Of Action

Cefuroxime is a bactericidal agent that acts by inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cefuroxime has activity in the presence of some beta-lactamases, both penicillinases and cephalosporinases, of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.


Pharmacokinets

Excretion of cefuroxime in the urine was almost complete in 24 h, the clearance being 150 ml/min/1.73m2. About 45% was excreted through the renal tubules. The injections were well tolerated and no changes in haematological or biochemical values were seen.

Contra Indications

Antimicrobial resistance, viral infection. Cefuroxime does not treat viral infection (e.g., common cold).

Axifur 1.5gm Injection is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.


Product And Alcohol Interaction

Consuming alcohol with Axifur 1.5gm Injection does not cause any harmful side effects.


Breast Feeding Related Information

Axifur 1.5gm Injection is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.

Avoid prolonged use of Axifur 1.5gm Injection, since it may have possible effects such as rash and diarrhea.


Indications

Susceptible mild to moderate infections including pharyngitis/tonsillitis, acute maxillary sinusitis, chronic bronchitis, acute otitis media, uncomplicated skin and skin structure, UTIs, gonorrhea, early Lyme disease.


Interactions

Cefuroxime has serious interactions with the following drugs:

argatroban.

BCG vaccine live.

bivalirudin.

cholera vaccine.

dalteparin.

enoxaparin.

fondaparinux.

heparin.

The effectiveness of two daily dose of Axifur 1.5gm Injection is same as three daily doses of amoxicillin.

Usually, discontinuation of medicine can subside diarrhea. However, if diarrhea persists or if there is blood in the stool then immediately contact your physician.
