Bactimycin 150mg Tablet is an antibiotic. It works by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Thus, it stops the bacteria from growing, and prevents the infection from spreading.


Pharmacokinets

Roxithromycin is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract producing peak levels (Cmax) within 2 h. The drug is eliminated with a half-life (T1/2) of about 10 h. Roxithromycin is not extensively metabolized. Approximately 53% is excreted in the faeces and about 10% of the dose is eliminated in urine.

ROXITHROMYCIN may have interaction with terfenadine, astemizole (used to treat allergy), cisapride (used to treat acidity), pimozide, thioridazine (used to treat psychosis), disopyramide (used to treat heart conditions), ergotamine, dihydroergotamine (used to treat migraine), midazolam (used to treat sleepiness), ciclosporin (used in organ transplantation), theophylline (used to treat asthma), dofetilide (used to treat irregular heartbeat) and warfarin (used to prevent blood clotting).
