Baxin 125 mg/125 mg Syrup contains two active ingredients: Ampicillin and Cloxacillin. Ampicillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is essential for the survival of the bacteria. At the same time, cloxacillin works toward increasing the efficiency of this medicine and helps in treating the infections caused by resistant bacteria. Together, these two medicines not only kill the infection-causing bacteria but also arrest the spread of the infection.
Ampicillin is well-absorbed from the GI tract (though food reduces its absorption), and reaches peak concentrations in one to two hours. The bioavailability is around 62% for parenteral routes. Unlike other penicillins, which usually bind 60–90% to plasma proteins, ampicillin binds to only 15–20%.Cloxacillin is an antibiotic agent used for the treatment of beta-hemolytic streptococcal and pneumococcal infections as well as staphylococcal infections. A semi-synthetic penicillin antibiotic which is a chlorinated derivative of oxacillin.
