You can start applying Benoquin Ointment to a small portion of unbroken skin or near the pigmented area for a period of several days for checking allergic reaction. You should discontinue it if itching, excessive inflammation, or swelling occurs. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking this medicine. If no improvement is seen after two months of treatment, the use of this product should be discontinued.
Benoquin Ointment is a depigmenting agent. It works by increasing the elimination of melanin (skin darkening pigment) from skin cells. This helps lighten the skin in vitiligo.
Pharmacokinets :- Monobenzone is the monobenzyl ether of hydroquinone. Monobenzone occurs as a white, almost tasteless crystalline powder, soluble in alcohol and practically insoluble in water.Chemically, monobenzone is designated as p-(benzyloxy) phenol; the empirical formula is C13H12O2; molecular weight 200.24. The structural formula is:Each gram of Benoquin Cream contains 200 mg of monobenzone USP, in a water-washable base consisting of purified water USP, cetyl alcohol NF, propylene glycol USP, sodium lauryl sulfate NF and white wax NF.

Benoquin Ointment should be used with caution during breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be held until the treatment of the mother is completed and the drug is eliminated from her body.

Monobenzone can make you sunburn more easily. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when you are outdoors. Skin treated with monobenzone may be especially sensitive to sunlight or irritation for the rest of your life. You should always wear sunscreen.
Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and gently massage the ointment.

If you miss a dose of Benoquin Ointment, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Apply it in a thin layer to the pigmented areas of skin and rub in gently.

It may also cause changes in the color of your untreated skin. Talk to your doctor if this bothers you.
Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve after 1 month of treatment.
