Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Betamil GM Cream is a combination of three medicines: Betamethasone, Gentamicin and Miconazole, which treats skin infections. Betamethasone is a steroid which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy. Gentamicin is an antibiotic which stops the growth of bacteria while Miconazole is an antifungal which stops the growth of fungi on the skin. Together, they treat your skin infection effectively.

Pharmacokinets

Betamethasone phosphate disappeared rapidly from plasma (mean half-life = 4.7 min) as betamethasone levels rose. Betamethasone plasma levels reached a peak 10-36 min after administration of the phosphate before declining in a biexponential manner. The terminal slow disposition phase had a mean half-life of 6.5 h.One study assessing the pharmacokinetics of gentamicin in children and adults reported a mean half-life of 75 minutes after intravenous administration. The mean half-life associated with intramuscular administration was about 29 minutes longer. The salivary pharmacokinetic profile of miconazole in the oral gel showed peak concentrations 30 min after each gel application. The mean maximum salivary miconazole concentration over the 12-h period occurred 30 min after the second application of the gel.
