Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Betamil N Cream is a combination of two medicines: Betamethasone and Neomycin. Betamethasone is a steroid which blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen and itchy. Neomycin is an antibiotic. It stops bacterial growth on the skin by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions.

Pharmacokinets

Betamethasone phosphate disappeared rapidly from plasma (mean half-life = 4.7 min) as betamethasone levels rose. Betamethasone plasma levels reached a peak 10-36 min after administration of the phosphate before declining in a biexponential manner. The terminal slow disposition phase had a mean half-life of 6.5 h.

Neomycin is a medication used to treat and manage hepatic coma and perioperative prophylaxis. Neomycin belongs to a group of antibiotics known as aminoglycosides, which works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis leading to its bactericidal effect on gram-negative bacteria.
