Mechanism Of Action

Bimat-T Eye Drops is a combination of two medicines used to treat pressure in the eyes (ocular hypertension) and glaucoma. It works by decreasing the pressure of fluid in the eye (aqueous humor), which helps in lowering the increased eye pressure.

Pharmacokinets

One pharmacokinetic study of bimatoprost in 6 healthy volunteers determined that 67% of the administered dose was found to be excreted in the urine while 25% of the dose was recovered in the feces. The elimination half-life of bimatoprost is approximately 45 minutes.Timolol and its metabolites are mainly found excreted in the urine. Timolol half-life was measured at 2.9 ± 0.3 h hours in a clinical study of healthy volunteers. One pharmacokinetic study in healthy volunteers measured the total plasma clearance of timolol to be 557 ± 61 ml/min.

Contra Indications

Hypersensitivity to Bimat-T Eye Drops is a contraindication. In addition, Bimat-T Eye Drops should not be used if you have the following conditions:

2nd and 3rd degree heart block

Abnormal liver function tests

Absent eye lens

Bronchial asthma

COPD

Cardiogenic shock

Children

Diabetes

Hypersensitivity

Inflammation of the iris

Indications

Bimatoprost and Timolol is indicated for reduction of IOP in patients with POAG or ocular hypertension (OHT) who are insufficiently responsive to monotherapy.

Interactions

If you use other drugs or over the counter products at the same time, the effects of Bimat-T Eye Drops may change. This may increase your risk for side-effects or cause your drug not to work properly. Tell your doctor about all the drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are using, so that you doctor can help you prevent or manage drug interactions. Bimat-T Eye Drops may interact with the following drugs and products:

Adrenaline

Albuterol

Apraclonidine

Clonidine

Indomethacin

Ipodate

Latanoprost

Lignocaine

Metrizamide

Paregoric

Typical Dosage

Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid.

Store below 30°C


Effects Of Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Bimat-T Eye Drops, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

Expert Advice

You have been prescribed Bimat-T Eye Drops to lower high pressure in the eye and reduce the risk of vision loss.

Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute, immediately after instilling the drop.

If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before putting in these eye drops and wait at least 15 minutes before putting your lenses back in.

Do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface, or to your eye, to avoid contaminating the eye drops.

It may cause short term blurring of vision when first used. Use caution before driving or using machines.

It may temporarily cause your eyelashes to grow longer, darker, and thicker. This is not harmful.

It may cause brown pigmentation of the eye when used long-term. This may be permanent but is not harmful.

Make sure to use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
