Bioglandin 500mcg Injection is given as an injection by a doctor or nurse and should not be used without medical supervision. The most common side effects of this medicine are interrupted breathing (apnea) and a high temperature for a short time period (transient pyrexia/fever). If your baby has these or any other side effects, let your doctor know.
Bioglandin 500mcg Injection is similar to a natural substance in the body called prostaglandin E1. It works by improving blood flow in newborn babies born with heart defects.
The metabolites of alprostadil are excreted primarily by the kidney, with almost 90% of an administered intravenous dose excreted in urine within 24 hours post- dose. The remainder of the dose is excreted in the feces.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them
Common side effects of Bioglandin
Apnea (absence of breathing)
Fever
Known hypersensitivity to alprostadil or components of the dosage form.
Sickle cell disease or trait, multiple myeloma, leukemia, polycythemia vera, thrombocythemia as these conditions are known to precipitate priapism, and alprostadil can also predispose to prolonged erection or priapism.
Peyronie disease of the penis, as alprostadil, is known to cause penile fibrosis and may worsen the condition.
Alprostadil intraurethral suppository; "medicated urethral system for erection" should be avoided in patients with urethral strictures as using it can cause further injuries to the penis.
Clinicians should avoid using alprostadil as an intraurethral suppository in patients with urethritis.
