Biomycetin Ear Drop helps to improve your symptoms and cure the underlying infection. Follow your doctor’s instructions precisely for administering this medicine in the ear. Wait for at least 5 minutes before applying any other medication to the same ear. It should be used regularly at evenly spaced time intervals as prescribed by your doctor. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping the medicine too early may lead to the infection returning or worsening.
Biomycetin Ear Drop is an antibiotic which stops the growth of bacteria that cause ear infections. It does so by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions.
The pharmacokinetics of chloramphenicol succinate have been described by a 2-compartment model. The reported values for the apparent volume of distribution range from 0.2 to 3.1 L/kg. Chloramphenicol succinate is metabolised (hydrolysed) by esterases in the body to active chloramphenicol.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Ear discomfort
Chloramphenicol is contraindicated in individuals with a history of previous hypersensitivity and/or toxic reaction to it. It must not be used in the treatment of trivial infections or where it is not indicated, as in colds, influenza, infections of the throat.
Biomycetin Ear Drop is safe to use during pregnancy. Most studies have shown low or no risk to the developing baby.

It has also been used for the treatment of typhoid and cholera. Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic and is in the class of antimicrobials that inhibits protein synthesis.

Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the ear without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside ear.

If you miss a dose of Biomycetin Ear Drop, apply it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

You have been prescribed Biomycetin Ear Drop for the treatment of bacterial infections of the ear.
Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
Do not touch the tip to any surface, or to your ear, to avoid contamination.
It should not be used for longer than one week.
Lie with the affected ear uppermost for at least ten minutes after putting the drops to avoid the drops running out.
Discard after 4 weeks of opening the bottle.

No, do not stop taking Biomycetin Ear Drop and complete the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cured.
