Give Biorox Kid 50mg Tablet DT to your child by mouth either 15 minutes before or 3 hours after food as taking it with food may reduce its absorption. However, in case your child develops a stomach upset, you can give it with a small amount of food. Biorox Kid 50mg Tablet DT is usually given twice a day, in the morning and evening, or as prescribed. Stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor as that depends upon the type of infection, its severity, and your child’s age and body weight.

Mechanism Of Action

Biorox Kid 50mg Tablet DT is an antibiotic. It works by interfering with the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to perform important functions. By doing so, it stops the infection-causing bacteria from growing further and prevents the infection from spreading.


Pharmacokinets

In humans, roxithromycin is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract producing peak levels (Cmax) within 2 h. The drug is eliminated with a half-life (T1/2) of about 10 h. Roxithromycin is not extensively metabolized. Approximately 53% is excreted in the faeces and about 10% of the dose is eliminated in urine.

Biorox Kid 50mg Tablet DT does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. Do not take ROXITHROMYCIN on your own as self-medication may lead to antibiotic-resistance in which antibiotics fail to act against specific bacterial infections. Talk to your doctor before taking ROXITHROMYCIN if you have/had heart, kidney or liver problems. Do not take antacids medicines along with ROXITHROMYCIN; maintain a gap of 2 hours between both. Avoid taking ROXITHROMYCIN if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless prescribed by a doctor.

Indications

Roxithromycin is an antibiotic that is used to treat infections such as infections of the chest, tonsils, skin or genitals. It works by killing or stopping the growth of bacteria (bugs). Like all antibiotics, roxithromycin is not effective against infections caused by viruses.

Interactions

ROXITHROMYCIN may have interaction with terfenadine, astemizole (used to treat allergy), cisapride (used to treat acidity), pimozide, thioridazine (used to treat psychosis), disopyramide (used to treat heart conditions), ergotamine, dihydroergotamine (used to treat migraine), midazolam (used to treat sleepiness), ciclosporin (used in organ transplantation), theophylline (used to treat asthma), dofetilide (used to treat irregular heartbeat) and warfarin (used to prevent blood clotting).

Effects Of Missed Dosage

Do not panic. Unless your child’s doctor has advised a specific regime for your child, you can give the missed dose as soon as you remember. But, if it is nearly time for the next dose, just give the next dose at the right time. Do not double the dose.

Avoid giving Biorox Kid 50mg Tablet DT if your child has low potassium levels as it can lead to conduction abnormalities of the heart such as arrhythmias (QT prolongation).

Q. My child weighs 35 kg and is suffering from a bacterial chest infection. Can I give him Biorox Kid 50mg Tablet DT?

Safety studies in children less than 40 kg are not available. So, Biorox Kid 50mg Tablet DT is not recommended to be given to children who weigh less than 40 kg. It will be best if you seek the guidance of your child’s doctor.

Q. Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Biorox Kid 50mg Tablet DT?

Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
