Bpzide 12.5mg Tablet makes you lose excess water through urine. It may be used alone or in combination with other medicines. This medicine should be taken only during day time to avoid frequent urination at night. You must take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by the doctor and never stop it abruptly without consulting the doctor. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel ill, but if you stop taking this medicine, your condition could get worse. This may lead to your blood pressure rising up again and increase your risk of heart disease and stroke.

Mechanism Of Action

Bpzide 12.5mg Tablet is a diuretic which lowers blood pressure by removing extra water and certain electrolytes from the body. Over time it also relaxes blood vessels and improves blood flow.


Pharmacokinets

Absorption of hydrochlorothiazide is reduced in patients with congestive heart failure. Peak plasma concentrations are observed within 1 to 5 hours of dosing, and range from 70 to 490 ng/mL following oral doses of 12.5 to 100 mg.

Contra Indications

General Information.

Asthma, penicillin hypersensitivity, sulfonamide hypersensitivity, thiazide diuretic hypersensitivity.

Hepatic disease.

Diabetes mellitus, hyperglycemia.

Anuria, hypovolemia, renal disease, renal failure, renal impairment.

Pregnancy Related Information

Bpzide 12.5mg Tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.


Product And Alcohol Interaction

Bpzide 12.5mg Tablet may cause excessive drowsiness with alcohol.


Breast Feeding Related Information

Bpzide 12.5mg Tablet is safe to use during breastfeeding. Human studies suggest that the drug does not pass into the breastmilk in a significant amount and is not harmful to the baby.

Indications

Hydrochlorothiazide is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Hydrochlorothiazide is also used to treat fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, or kidney disorders, or edema caused by taking steroids or estrogen.

Interactions

Barbiturates. If you take these drugs with hydrochlorothiazide, your blood pressure may be lowered too much.

Lithium.

Blood pressure drugs.

Cholesterol-lowering drugs.

Corticosteroids.

Diabetes drugs.

Narcotics.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)

Effects Of Missed Dosage

If you miss a dose of Bpzide 12.5mg Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Take it in the morning with breakfast to avoid getting up at night to urinate.

It makes you feel dizzy. Avoid driving and attention requiring activity until you know how it affects you.

Avoid alcohol intake while taking Bpzide 12.5mg Tablet as it may increase the dizziness.

It may cause a sudden drop of sodium level in blood. Avoid low sodium diet while you are taking this medication.

Monitor your blood pressure after starting Bpzide 12.5mg Tablet, and notify your doctor if it does not lower down.

Notify your doctor if you experience dizziness, tiredness, or muscle weakness that does not go away.

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.
