Bricof 66.65 mg/1.5 mg Expectorant is a combination of two medicines: Guaifenesin and terbutaline. Guaifenesin is an expectorant which decreases the stickiness of mucus (phlegm) and helps in its removal from the airways. Terbutaline is a bronchodilator. It works by relaxing the muscles in the airways and widens airways.
Guaifenesin is administered orally. The plasma half-life is approximately 1 hour. Guiafenesin is rapidly hydrolyzed (60% within seven hours) and then excreted in the urine, with beta-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-lactic acid as its major urinary metabolite. No unchanged drug was detected in the urine following administration. The pharmacokinetics of terbutaline has been studied after subcutaneous adminsitration of a therapeutic dose of 250 microgram in 14 patients. Short absorption half-lives of about 7 min resulted in a fast uptake of the drug.
