Brimo Ophthalmic Solution is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by the doctor. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using the medication. Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to any surface as it may contaminate the eye drop. For best results, use it daily in the evening or at night.
It is an alpha adrenergic agonist which means it acts on alpha adrenergic receptor present in the eye. This medicine reduces the high pressure in the eye by decreasing the amount of fluid in the eyes. It has minimal effect on heart and lungs.
After ocular administration of either a 0.1% or 0.2% solution, plasma concentrations peaked within 0.5 to 2.5 hours and declined with a systemic half-life of approximately 2 hours. In humans, systemic metabolism of brimonidine is extensive. It is metabolized primarily by the liver.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Brimonidine is also contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of the medication, and it should not be used in children under the age of 2 because there have been reports of apnea, bradycardia, hypothermia, hypotonia, lethargy, and unresponsiveness in infants receiving brimonidine treatment
Brimo Ophthalmic Solution is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.

Brimo Ophthalmic Solution is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
To reduce the amount of Brimo Ophthalmic Solution that reaches the breastmilk, place pressure over the corner of the eye for 1 minute or more, then remove the excess solution with an absorbent tissue.

Brimonidine eye drops is used alone or together with other medicines to lower pressure inside the eye that is caused by open-angle glaucoma or ocular (eye) hypertension. This medicine is an alpha-adrenergic agonist. Brimonidine eye drops is also used to relieve redness of the eye caused by minor eye irritations.
If you use other drugs or over the counter products at the same time, the effects of Brimo Ophthalmic Solution may change. This may increase your risk for side-effects or cause your drug not to work properly. Tell your doctor about all the drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are using, so that you doctor can help you prevent or manage drug interactions. Brimo Ophthalmic Solution may interact with the following drugs and products:
Acetaminophen
Alcohol
Ascorbic acid
Aspirin
Atorvastatin
Cholecalciferol
Clopidogrel
Cyanocobalamin
Digoxin
Furosemide
Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid.
Store below 30°C
If you miss a dose of Brimo Ophthalmic Solution, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Brimo Ophthalmic Solution helps lower high pressure in the eye and reduces the risk of vision loss.
For best results, put one drop 2-3 times daily in the affected eye(s).
Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute, immediately after instilling the drop.
Remove contact lenses before using Brimo Ophthalmic Solution and allow at least 15 minutes before re-inserting them.
Do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface, or to your eye, to avoid contaminating the eye drops.
Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution.
It may cause short term blurring of vision when first used. Use caution before driving or using machines.
It may cause temporary burning or itching sensation in the eye. Inform your doctor if this does not go away.
Make sure to use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.

Yes, Brimo Ophthalmic Solution may cause drowsiness and may also cause fatigue which may impair the ability to drive or use machinery. It may also cause blurred or abnormal vision which could cause difficulty in driving or using machinery, especially at night or in reduced lighting. You should avoid driving or using machinery until these symptoms have subsided.

Brimo Ophthalmic Solution may cause low or high blood pressure. Before taking Brimo Ophthalmic Solution, inform your doctor if you are already taking any medicines to lower blood pressure. Moreover, keep a regular check on your blood pressure while you are taking Brimo Ophthalmic Solution.
Q. Does Brimo Ophthalmic Solution cause pupil dilation?
No, Brimo Ophthalmic Solution does not cause pupil dilation. On the contrary, in very rare cases, it may cause pupil constriction, also called miosis. If you experience miosis, you may have night vision difficulty, halos and glare. Contact your doctor if you experience these symptoms.
