Mechanism Of Action

Calaptin 40 Tablet is a calcium channel blocker. It blocks the action of calcium on the heart and blood vessels, thereby widening the blood vessels and allowing more blood and oxygen to reach the heart. This reduces blood pressure and decreases the chances of angina (chest pain).

Pharmacokinets

Intravenously administered Verapamil has been shown to be rapidly metabolized. Following intravenous infusion in man, verapamil is eliminated bi-exponentially, with a rapid early distribution phase (half-life about 4 minutes) and a slower terminal elimination phase (half-life 2-5 hours).

Verapamil is indicated to treat hypertension, to treat and prevent chest pain (angina), supraventricular arrhythmia and atrial fibrillation/flutter, chronic atrial fibrillation, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia (pediatric), and tardive dyskinesia.
