Calcyther 150mg Injection is administered as an injection by a healthcare professional. Kindly do not self administer. It is given in cases where oral administration is not possible.Some people may experience headaches, weakness, dizziness, and joint pain as side effects of this medicine. You may also notice some injection site reactions like pain, swelling, or redness. Please consult your doctor if these side effects do not resolve or persist for a longer duration. You may be monitored with blood tests once a week for 4 weeks to detect the presence of malarial parasites.
The drug works against the erythrocytic stages of P. falciparum by inhibiting nucleic acid and protein synthesis. Artemether is administered in combination with lumefantrine for improved efficacy. Artemether has a rapid onset of action and is rapidly cleared from the body.
The pharmacokinetic profiles of the arteether diastereomers were different, and the maximum plasma concentrations of alpha- and beta-isomers were reached at 4.77+/-1.21 hours and 6.96+/-1.62 hours, respectively, after which they showed biphasic decline with apparent terminal elimination half-lives of 13.24+/-1.08 hours

Arteether is used for the treatment of severe falciparum malaria active against P. falciparum strains that are resistant to chloroquine, mefloquine, halofantrine, quinine, pyrimethamine, cycloguanil and amodiaquine. Alpha/beta arteether is also used for the treatment of uncomplicated falciparum malaria.

This may increase your risk for side-effects or cause your drug not to work properly. Tell your doctor about all the drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are using, so that you doctor can help you prevent or manage drug interactions.
