Cardace 5 Tablet may be prescribed either alone or in combination with other medicines. It can be taken on an empty stomach or with a meal. This medicine should preferably be taken at the same time each day to get the maximum benefit. It is important to continue taking it regularly even if you feel well or even if your blood pressure is controlled. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel any symptoms, but if you stop taking this medicine, your condition could get worse. This is a widely used medicine and is considered safe for long-term use.
Cardace 5 Tablet is an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by reducing stress on the heart and relaxing blood vessel so that blood flows more smoothly and the heart can pump blood more efficiently.
Ramipril is a prodrug that undergoes de-esterification in the liver to form ramiprilat, its active metabolite. Ramipril rapidly distributes to all tissues, with the liver, kidneys and lungs showing markedly higher concentrations of the drug than the blood.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them

Prevention of Heart failure progression after myocardial infarction (MI): Ramipril is used after MI to prevent the progression of asymptomatic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.

If you miss a dose of Cardace 5 Tablet, skip it and continue with your normal schedule. Do not double the dose.

Cardace 5 Tablet can make you feel dizzy for the first few days, so rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. You can also prefer taking it at bedtime to avoid dizziness throughout the day.
Let your doctor know about any cough, or throat irritation that does not go away.
It may increase the level of potassium in blood. Avoid taking potassium supplements and potassium-rich foods such as banana and broccoli.

Q. I have been diagnosed with heart failure and the doctor has prescribed me Cardace 5 Tablet. Why?
Cardace 5 Tablet belongs to the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor group of drugs. It relaxes and widens the blood vessels, making it easier for the blood to pass through the vessels. As a result of this, the heart does not have to work more to push the blood. Since the workload on the heart is reduced, it is beneficial in heart failure. Additionally, it is also used to lower blood pressure and prevent stroke.
Q. Can Cardace 5 Tablet increase potassium levels? If yes, what should be done?
Cardace 5 Tablet may increase potassium levels in the blood, especially if you have uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, kidney problems, and dehydration. Potassium levels may also increase in patients using potassium salts or medicines which increase potassium levels or are aged more than 70 years of age. If you have any of these conditions and are using Cardace 5 Tablet, you need to be careful and get regular blood tests done to monitor potassium levels.
Q. When can I expect my blood pressure to be normal after starting Cardace 5 Tablet?
Cardace 5 Tablet takes a few hours to reduce high blood pressure but since there are no symptoms, you will not notice any difference. It takes a few weeks for the blood pressure to get fully controlled. Do not stop taking the medicine. Keep taking it even if you feel better or if your blood pressure is normalized.
Q. Ever since I started taking Cardace 5 Tablet, I noticed that I have developed a dry cough which is very irritating and is not relieved by any medicine. Why is it?
Cardace 5 Tablet commonly is responsible for dry cough which can be persistent and is not relieved by any medicine. Talk to your doctor if it bothers you or you have trouble sleeping, as another medicine may be better. Even if you stop taking Cardace 5 Tablet, the cough may take a few days to a month to go away.
Q. I accidentally took a 25 mg Cardace 5 Tablet tablet instead of one 5 mg. Will it have any harmful effects?
Yes, you may feel lightheaded, dizzy, your pulse may become slow and you may even faint. You should take the help of a relative or friend for an emergency or seek immediate medical support.
Q. Will there be any problem if I am taking Cardace 5 Tablet and I have surgery scheduled in a week?
Inform your doctor that you are taking Cardace 5 Tablet. Cardace 5 Tablet can reduce your blood pressure when it is used with a general anesthetic. Your doctor may advise you to stop taking it 24 hours before surgery.

There is no evidence that Cardace 5 Tablet has any effect on fertility in both men and women. However, if you are planning to get pregnant, talk to your doctor first because Cardace 5 Tablet is not recommended in pregnancy.

Yes, Cardace 5 Tablet may have some effect on antidiabetic medicines and insulin and may lower your blood sugar levels. Therefore, you need to check your blood sugar levels regularly.
Q. I have been using Cardace 5 Tablet for blood pressure for some time, but now I have noticed that I often have a sore throat along with fever. I want to stop Cardace 5 Tablet and see if this goes, can I stop Cardace 5 Tablet?
No, you should not stop Cardace 5 Tablet suddenly as this may cause a sudden increase in your blood pressure which may be harmful to you. In addition to this, Cardace 5 Tablet can very rarely decrease your white blood cell count which is important to fight infections in your body. Consult your doctor and get a blood test done. If your white cell count is decreased, it could be due to Cardace 5 Tablet. Ask your doctor for alternative medicine for blood pressure. You can continue taking Cardace 5 Tablet if your investigations are normal.

Yes, Cardace 5 Tablet is safe and works best if taken for a long time. But, taking Cardace 5 Tablet for a long time can sometimes affect the working of your kidneys. To keep track of this, your doctor will get regular blood tests done and check how well your kidneys are working.
