Mechanism Of Action

Ceftriaxone works by inhibiting the mucopeptide synthesis in the bacterial cell wall. The beta-lactam moiety of ceftriaxone binds to carboxypeptidases, endopeptidases, and transpeptidases in the bacterial cytoplasmic membrane. These enzymes are involved in cell-wall synthesis and cell division.

Pharmacokinetics. Absorption: Ceftriaxone can be administered intravenously and intramuscularly, and the drug is completely absorbed. It is not available orally. DRUG-DISEASE INTERACTION: CEFAXONE INJECTION 1GM may have interactions with colitis (inflammation in the lining of the colon), hyperbilirubinemia (excess bilirubin in the blood), gall bladder disease, pancreatitis, seizures, kidney and liver disease
