It prevents the bacteria from forming the bacterial cell wall which is needed for them to survive. CEFTAS 400MG must be taken with or without food. Try to take at the same time each day. It should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

Mechanism Of Action

Like all beta-lactam antibiotics, cefixime binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, causing the inhibition of the third and last stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis

Pharmacokinets

The pharmacokinetic profile of cefixime is significantly altered in patients with marked renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 20 ml/min), and in such cases dosage should be reduced from 400 to 200 mg/day. Haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis do not remove significant amounts of the drug from the body

Side Effects

Allergic reaction (such as rash, joint pain, swallowing or breathing problems, swelling of your lips, face, throat, or tongue)

Blistering or bleeding of the skin around the lips, eyes, mouth, nose and genitals, flu-like symptoms, and fever (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)

Severe blistering rash where layers of the skin may peel off to leave large areas of raw exposed skin over the body, feeling of being generally unwell, chills and aching muscles (Toxic epidermal necrolysis)

Skin lesions with a pink/red ring and a pale centre which may be itchy, scaly, or filled with fluid. The rash may appear especially on the palms or soles of your feet (erythema multiforme)

Infections more easily than usual and bruise or bleed more easily than normal (blood disorder)

Nose bleeds, bleeding gums, chills, tiredness, pale skin (often with a yellow tinge), shortness of breath (haemolytic anaemia)

Changes in the way the kidneys are working or blood in your child’s urine

Fits (convulsions)

Encephalopathy (symptoms such as feeling confused, feeling less alert or aware of things than usual, unusual muscle movements or stiffness)

Severe watery diarrhoea, feeling weak, fever (Pseudomembranous colitis)

Contra Indications

diarrhea from an infection with Clostridium difficile bacteria.

Alcohol should be avoided along with Ceftas Tablet as it can worsen the side effects such as sweating, headache, increased heartbeat, redness of the skin.

Effects Of Missed Dosage

It is advisable to complete the course of antibiotics and do not miss any dose. If you have missed any dose of this medicine, take it as early as you remember. If it is the time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosage schedule. Do not take the a double dose of the medicine to compensate for the missed one.

Effects Of Overdose

If you have taken too much of Ceftas Tablet, seek medical care immediately, as this medicine may damage your brain (Encephalopathy).
