The mechanism of action of celecoxib is due to selective inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which is responsible for prostaglandin synthesis, an integral part of the pain and inflammation pathway.
This pharmacologic activity gives celecoxib its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic effects.
It is extensively metabolized in the liver, with very little drug (< 3%) being eliminated unchanged
The major routes of excretion for celecoxib are feces and urine
Celecoxib is metabolized primarily through methyl hydroxylation to form hydroxycelecoxib.
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them
