Mechanism Of Action

Cefepime-tazobactam can be used for treatment of ESBL producing Enterobacteriaceae. This will help to reduce the usage of carbapenems in ESBL positive Enterobacteriaceae strains and prevent development of carbapenem resistance. This combination has shown good in-vivo response in many patients who were treated.

Pharmacokinets

For cefepime, the mean (plus or minus standard deviation [SD]) elimination half-life was 3.33 ± 0.74 h and the peak concentration in serum was 70.5 ± 20.8 mg/liter. Mean (plus or minus SD) total body clearance was 75.5 ± 12.9 ml/min. Renal clearance accounted for 80.3% ± 10.6% of drug removal.

Interactions

Drug-Drug Interactions: CEFEPIME+TAZOBACTAM may interact with aminoglycoside antibiotics (streptomycin, neomycin, and gentamicin) as it may cause severe nephrotoxicity (damage to the kidney). It may also interact with a medicine used to treat gout
