Cepdox 125mg Suspension may be given with or without food. However, if your child develops a stomach upset, prefer giving it with food. The dose and duration of the medicine will depend on the type and severity of the infection. Stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking this medicine, give the same dose again but do not double dose if it is almost time for the next dose.

Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Cefadroxil is a cephalosporin for oral administration which inhibits bacterial wall synthesis of actively dividing cells by binding to one or more penicillin-binding proteins. The result is formation of a defective cell wall that is osmotically unstable, and bacterial cell lysis.

Pharmacokinets

Pharmacokinetics. Cefadroxil is almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. After doses of 500 mg and 1 g by mouth, peak plasma concentrations of about 16 and 30 micrograms/ml, respectively, are obtained after 1.5 to 2.0 hours.

Side Effects

Cepdox 125mg Suspension does not pose serious side effects and is well-tolerated by children. In case the side effects do occur, they’re likely to subside once the body adapts to the medicine. Consult your child’s doctor if these side effects persist or bother your child. The most common side effects include-

Common side effects of Cepdox

Nausea

Vomiting

Abdominal pain

Diarrhea

Allergy

Headache

Contra Indications

Cefadroxil is contraindicated in patients with cephalosporin hypersensitivity or cephamycin hypersensitivity. Cefadroxil should be used cautiously in patients with hypersensitivity to penicillin. The structural similarity between cefadroxil and penicillin means cross-reactivity can occur.

FAQs

Q. What if I overdose my child by mistake?

A single extra dose of Cepdox 125mg Suspension is unlikely to do any harm. However, if you think you have given too much of Cepdox 125mg Suspension to your child, immediately speak to a doctor. Overdose may cause unwanted side effects and may even worsen your child’s condition.

Q. Can Cepdox 125mg Suspension cause any serious side effects?

Yes, Cepdox 125mg Suspension may rarely cause some serious side effects. These include persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergy, severe diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. Always consult your child’s doctor for help in such a situation.

Q. Can other medicines be given at the same time as Cepdox 125mg Suspension?

Cepdox 125mg Suspension can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. Tell your doctor about any other medicines your child is taking before starting Cepdox 125mg Suspension. Also, check with your child’s doctor before giving any medicine to your child.

Q. Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Cepdox 125mg Suspension?

Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not get vaccinated until they recover from the illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.

Q. Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Cepdox 125mg Suspension on a long-term basis?

The doctor may prescribe kidney and liver function tests periodically to keep a check on your child’s condition.

Q. My child has a runny nose and I can see yellow-green color mucus oozing out from my child’s nose. What does it indicate?

During a common cold, it is normal for mucus to thicken up and change from clear to yellow or green. This color change of mucus does not necessarily indicate the need for antibiotics. These symptoms often last for 7-10 days. However, if the symptoms persist or worsen, consult your doctor.

Q. Can Cepdox 125mg Suspension impact my child’s digestive system?

Children generally have a sensitive stomach, and they may develop a stomach upset while taking medicines. Cepdox 125mg Suspension is an antibiotic and its use may affect or compromise the good bacteria in their gastrointestinal tract. It may kill off the good bacteria along with the bad and increase the risk of developing other infections. In case your child is having diarrhea while on Cepdox 125mg Suspension, do not abruptly stop the medicine course. Instead, call your child’s doctor to ask about the next steps. The doctor may suggest an alternative dose to reduce the chances of such side effects.

Q. Can Cepdox 125mg Suspension lead to bacterial resistance in my child?

Yes, irregular treatment, repeated use, and misuse of Cepdox 125mg Suspension can lead to bacterial resistance. This means that whenever next required, the same antibiotic may not be effective, and a different antibiotic may be needed for your child, which too may not work or cause increased side-effects.
