Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Cefpodoxime controls the growth of bacteria and kills them by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. However, the bacteria make an enzyme (beta-lactamases) that can destroy Cefpodoxime

Pharmacokinets

The half-life of cefpodoxime ranges from 1.9 to 2.8 hours. The absolute bio-availability of cefpodoxime proxetil tablets is 50%, and absorption is enhanced by concomitant administration of food. Raising gastric pH by pretreatment with antacids or H2-receptor antagonists results in reduced absorption

Clavulanic acid along with amoxicillin is well absorbed from stomach after oral administration without having any impact of fasting and fed state on the pharmacokinetics of amoxicillin. While relative bioavailability of clavulanic acid becomes reduced when administered after 30 and 150 min of high fat breakfast
