This broad-spectrum antibiotic is useful in treating a wide variety of infections that are caused by bacteria. This medicine specifically used for the treatment of infections caused by staphylococci, group B streptococci, H. influenzae (type A and B), E. coli, Enterobacter, Salmonella, and Klebsiella.

Mechanism Of Action

Cefuroxime is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria in the human body. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which blocks the action of enzymes produced by bacteria to inactivate Cefuroxime

The pharmacokinetics of cefuroxime and amoxycillin were very similar, peak levels of about 6.4 mg/l being found between 2 and 2.5 h after administration. The peak serum level of clavulanic acid was 4.3 mg/l at 1.25 h after administration. The serum half-lives were about 1.1 h for all three agents

Contra Indications

Allergy

Cetil Cv 250Mg/125Mg Tablet should not be used by the patient if he has a known history of allergy to medicines belonging to this medication or any other medication belonging to fluoroquinolones.

Tendinitis Or Tendon Rupture

Do not take this medication if you have a past history of tendinitis or tendon rupture after using Cetil Cv 250Mg/125Mg Tablet.

Myasthenia Gravis

Avoid taking this medication if you have a past or family history of suffering from Myasthenia Gravis (weakness and rapid fatigue of muscles under voluntary control).

Pregnancy Related Information

Pregnant women should not use this medication. Consult your doctor before using this medication. Potential benefits and risks involved should be given due consideration before administration.


Product And Alcohol Interaction

Consumption of alcohol with this medicine does not cause any harmful adverse effects.


Breast Feeding Related Information

Women who are breastfeeding should not use this medication as it can cause side effects for the baby. Consult your doctor before taking this medication. Avoid breastfeeding for about 3 to 4 hours to decrease the infant's risk exposure. 

Indications

Indications. It is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria. Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis (beta-lactamase producing strains) or Streptococcus pyogenes

Whenever you take more than one medicine, or mix it with certain foods or beverages, you"re at risk of a drug interaction.

Interaction with Alcohol

This medication do not interact with alcohol. Doctor consultation is recommended.

Interaction with Lab Test

Inform your doctor beforehand any of the pathological testing, as this medication leads to positive direct Coombs', false-positive urinary glucose test using cupric sulfate (Benedict's solution, Clinitest®, Fehling's solution), false-positive serum or urine creatinine with Jaffé reaction.

Interaction with Medicine

This medication is known to interact with Amikacin, Chloramphenicol, Ethinyl Estradiol, Cholera Vaccine and Furosemide.

Increased effect: High-dose probenecid decreases the clearance

Increased toxicity: Aminoglycosides increase the nephrotoxic potential

Interaction with Disease

Modify dosage in patients with severe renal impairment, prolonged use may result in superinfection; use with caution in patients with a history of penicillin allergy, especially IgE-mediated reactions (eg, anaphylaxis, urticaria); may cause antibiotic-associated colitis or colitis secondary to C. difficile.

Interaction with Food

This medicine may be taken with food, however, bioavailability is increased with food


Typical Dosage

Complete full course of medication, even if you feel better. Drink 2-3 L fluid/day. If diarrhea occurs, yogurt or buttermilk may help.

Effects Of Missed Dosage

Missed dose should be taken as soon as you remember. A dose should be skipped if the time of the second scheduled dose is near.
