Mechanism Of Action

Cefuroxime is an antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering which is essential for the survival of bacteria in the human body. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor which blocks the action of enzymes produced by bacteria to inactivate Cefuroxime

The pharmacokinetics of cefuroxime and amoxycillin were very similar, peak levels of about 6.4 mg/l being found between 2 and 2.5 h after administration. The peak serum level of clavulanic acid was 4.3 mg/l at 1.25 h after administration. The serum half-lives were about 1.1 h for all three agents

Indications. It is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by sensitive bacteria. Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. Acute Bacterial Otitis Media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis (beta-lactamase producing strains) or Streptococcus pyogenes

Drug-Drug Interactions: CEFUROXIME+CLAVULANIC ACID may have interaction with antacid (esomeprazole, omeprazole), anticoagulants (warfarin), anti-gout (probenecid), diuretics (furosemide), oral contraceptives (estrogen, progesterone). Food-Drug Interactions: No interactions found/established

Effects Of Missed Dosage
