Basic Information

Mechanism Of Action

Cyproheptadine is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, sneezing, hives, and itching. It works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction.

Tricholine citrate is a bile acid binding agent. It removes bile acids from the body. The liver then produces more bile acids using cholesterol, as a result, the level of cholesterol in the body is lowered. Sorbitol acts as a syrup base and also as an osmotic laxative to relieve constipation

Sorbitol exerts its laxative effect by drawing water into the large intestine, thereby stimulating bowel movements.

Pharmacokinets

Cyproheptadine is well-absorbed following oral ingestion, with peak plasma levels occurring after 1 to 3 hours. Its terminal half-life when taken orally is approximately 8 hours

Tricholine citrate contains three molecules of choline. Clinical interest in choline

centres on its lipotropic action & its utility in the treatment of fatty infiltration and

cirrhosis of liver. Choline converts fat into phospholipids like, lecithin, which is

essential to bio membrane structure and its function. Lecithin is also a major

component of high density lipoprotein (HDL), and is used to mobilize cholesterol

from cell membrane. In patients with fatty liver, increased rate of phospholipid

turnover has been observed following administration of choline.

Caution should be used when coprescribing lamivudine oral solution with oral formulations containing large amounts of sorbitol, which may lead to suboptimal antiviral activity due to reduced lamivudine plasma exposure.
