Cipladine Ointment 30gm is also used in infection control during insertion and care of urinary catheters, circumcision (removal of the foreskin from the human penis), suture removal and dressing changes.
Cipladine Ointment 30gm works by inhibiting the growth of infection-causing microbes. As a small molecule, iodine in Cipladine Ointment 30gm can easily penetrate microorganisms and oxidizes essential proteins, nucleotides, and fatty acids, leading to cell death. Cipladine Ointment 30gm is effective against bacteria (Gram-positive and Gram-negative, including antibiotic-resistant and antiseptic-resistant strains), fungi, viruses, and protozoa. Cipladine Ointment 30gm is used in degerming (physical removal of microbes) stasis ulcers (wound on the leg or ankle due to damaged veins), decubitus ulcers (bed sores), and the umbilical area. It is also used for degerming the intravenous devices in blood transfusions, hyperalimentation (artificial supply of nutrients), cutdowns, and central venous line.
Povidone iodine is an effective antiseptic that does not impede wound healing. Povidone iodine is bactericidal against Gram-positive and -negative organisms. No acquired bacterial resistance or cross-resistance has been reported for iodine. Povidone iodine aids healing in a range of acute and chronic wounds

Like every medicine, Cipladine Ointment 30gm has common side effects like local swelling, itchiness, redness, small blisters, and irritation at the application site. Most of these side effects of Cipladine Ointment 30gm do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. If these side effects persist longer, please consult your doctor. Prolonged use of Cipladine Ointment 30gm can cause side effects like a drop in blood pressure, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the skin and mucosa, imbalance of electrolytes, rapid heartbeat (tachycardia) and restlessness.

Cipladine Ointment 30gm is not recommended during breastfeeding. When a breastfeeding mother uses Cipladine Ointment 30gm, it may increase the iodine levels in the breastmilk causing hypothyroidism in breastfed infants. Cipladine Ointment 30gm can cause excessive iodine absorption with its vaginal use, hence avoid douching (washing) with Cipladine Ointment 30gm and iodine-containing tampons during breastfeeding. Please consult your doctor before taking Cipladine Ointment 30gm if you are breastfeeding.

Hold the spray container about 4-6 inches away from skin and spray. Allow it to dry and apply bandage/dressing, if necessary.Surgical scrub: Gently apply the Cipladine Ointment 30gm scrub on the affected area, develop lather and scrub thoroughly for 5 minutes. Rinse off using sterile gauze saturated with water.

Thyroid function monitoring (thyroid function tests like T3, T4 and TSH levels) is recommended in patients to check on overactive thyroid gland function, which is possible due to iodine absorption into the body.
Regular monitoring of electrolytes is necessary since iodine is possibly absorbed into the body and cause an imbalance of electrolytes.
It is better to take an electrocardiograph (ECG) if you notice rapid heartbeat (tachycardia).
It is advised to take a blood osmolarity test, since Cipladine Ointment 30gm may cause iodine absorption leading to abnormal blood concentration.
Kidney function monitoring is advised in patients since Cipladine Ointment 30gm may affect kidney disease patients with renal impairment.
