Citimet Tablet may be taken with or without food. However, it is advised to take it at the same time each day as this helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body. Your dose depends on your age and the condition you are being treated for. Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Do not stop taking it suddenly without talking to your doctor as it may worsen your symptoms.
Citicoline enhances cellular communication by increasing the availability of neurotransmitters, including acetylcholine, norepinephrine, and dopamine. In simple terms, the choline component of citicoline is used to create acetylcholine, which is a primary executive neurotransmitter in the human brain.
Citicoline is water-soluble, with more than 90% oral bioavailability. Plasma levels peak one hour after oral ingestion, and a majority of the citicoline is excreted as CO 2 in respiration, and again 24 hours after ingestion, where the remaining citicoline is excreted through urine.

Citicoline was (2011) the 10th drug by rank of billed amount. Its approved indications are stroke (acute and sub-acute) and head injury, but not cognitive decline associated with age, the presumed indication for most of its use.
Drug-drug interactions: CITICOLINE alter the effect of antiparkinsonian drugs (levodopa, carbidopa, and entacapone) when given with it. The effectiveness of CITICOLINE is altered when given with another nootropic (meclofenoxate). Drug-food interactions: No interactions found.

If you miss a dose of Citimet Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

No, students should not take Citimet Tablet since studies show that Citimet Tablet is effective only in age-related memory problems, memory problems associated with long-standing stroke, and in Alzheimer’s disease. Moreover, there is no data available for use of this medicine in children.

In cases of stroke caused due to blood clots, taking Citimet Tablet orally can help the patient recover completely within 3 months.
