Mechanism Of Action

Cefpodoxime controls the growth of bacteria and kills them by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall. However, the bacteria make an enzyme (beta-lactamases) that can destroy Cefpodoxime

Pharmacokinets

Over the recommended dosing range, the Tmax was approximately 2 to 3 hours and the T1/2 ranged from 2.09 to 2.84 hours. Mean Cmax was 1.4 mcg/mL for the 100 mg dose, 2.3 mcg/mL for the 200 mg dose, and 3.9 mcg/mL for the 400 mg dose.

Clavulanic acid along with amoxicillin is well absorbed from stomach after oral administration without having any impact of fasting and fed state on the pharmacokinetics of amoxicillin. While relative bioavailability of clavulanic acid becomes reduced when administered after 30 and 150 min of high fat breakfast.

CEFPODOXIME PROXETIL+CLAVULANIC ACID may have interaction with anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin), anti-gout (e.g. probenecid), diuretics (e.g. furosemide), and vitamin supplements (e.g. calcium, vitamin D). Drug-Food Interactions: No interactions found/established.
